ABOUT ME

Hello, I'm Murphy!

Meet Murphy

Murphy is a proven community leader. She began her career as a Photojournalist with a focus on disability and women's issues. After seeing the issues plaguing Arizona, she turned her focus to community organizing in 2017.

She is a lead organizer of the Women’s March Phoenix, a former Co-Director of We The People Summit — a series of civic engagement conferences — and most recently Deputy Director of Election Protection Arizona, a statewide organization dedicated to protecting the public’s right to vote.

As the daughter of a single parent, she relied on early childhood education and youth programs growing up—and she knows how critical these services are for youth.

Murphy will maintain our neighborhoods and outdoor recreation areas to provide safe spaces for children and families to enjoy their community. Further, she will work to improve emergency response times. It can take up to 18 mins for emergency services to respond to a call. That can mean the difference between life and death. Murphy supports using innovative solutions to address this problem while acknowledging and reducing unintended harm to vulnerable communities.

Last, as a 20-year resident of Arizona, Murphy has seen the ongoing effects of Climate Change, from the increase in 120° plus degree days to the rise in air pollution. As the largest city in Arizona and the 5th largest city in the country, the Phoenix City Council must pass bold policies to address these issues and ensure our city has a bright future for decades to come. As Phoenix grows in population, all community members must have shelter and access to affordable housing. Growing up in a low-income household, Murphy knows the challenges families face to make ends meet. Murphy will prioritize mixed-income units in new apartment complexes and wrap-around services for the homeless.

Murphy is a solutions-focused community leader who will work with the community to get things done for District 6.

District 6 includes Ahwatukee, Arcadia, The Biltmore, and the southern portion of North Phoenix.
